After months of stiff opposition by the Nigerian Senate on the confirmation of Mr. Ibrahim Magu as the substantive chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), indications emerged Tuesday evening showing that all is set for the unveiling of Super Cop, DCP Ahmed Abdulrahman as the new face of the anti-graft agency.
Business Hilights recalls that late last week, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, chairman, Senate Committee on Public Petitions, Ethics and privledges made it clear that Nigeria Senate no longer regard Mr. Ibrahim Magu as Acting Chairman of EFCC.
Giving more insights at a press conference while reviewing activities of his Committee, the Imo State-born lawmaker, averred that even though there were massive petitions against the EFCC, his committee could not invite Magu because he was no longer seen as the acting Chairman by the National Assembly.
Though calls to the Commission on the development met stiff denials, confident sources in the know of the plan stood their ground that the announcement is expected any moment from now.
Recall that the Nigerian Red Chambers had on March 15, this year roundly rejected Magu’s nomination as the substantive chairman of EFCC for the second time.
The Senators had relied on a security report by the Department of Security Service (SSS) that he lacked integrity to lead the country’s anti-corruption agency.
However, Magu has been working in acting capacity since his appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari on November 10, 2015.
The most traveled crime intelligent detective and Bauchi State’s Kirfi Council-born Abdulrahman, had served as Deputy Director in charge of Operations when Farida Waziri was chairperson of the commission.

Besides, telephone interviews with some Senators Tuesday showed high levels of relief as many of them felt vindicated and see the possible change of baton as a show of respect for Rule of Law, synergy and respect for constituted authority even though it is coming very late.
Some analysts see the delay as part of last minute drive to save the face of Magu as such change may not provide soft landing for him after all.
