Leading Chinese hardware manufacturer Huawei Technologies has trailed the blaze in App innovation, by creating and hosting its own App store.

According to the company, henceforth, all new devices coming into the country will be Huawei App Store pre-installed.

Huawei also revealed that its mobile service platform will not replace the Google Play Store, but rather focus on localised apps to drive digital inclusion and support Nigeria in its efforts to grow e-businesses and governance using the store.

Cobe Li, Huawei’s co-operation and alliance director of consumer cloud service southern Africa, said “Huawei’s consumer mobile services in Africa will include an app store for locally developed games, music, movies, books and other content; we are also planning to launch African themes and cloud storage”.

Continuing, Li hinted that “Huawei’s app store is not aiming to compete with the likes of Google Play, but aims to supplement existing Android apps”.

He noted that the company plans to partner with innovation incubators to support local developers and bring their content onto the platform.

Before now, Huawei had been the backbone of telecoms and broadband revolution in Nigeria and many other parts of Africa, Middle East and the Caribbean.
