More revelations are still emerging from a recent statement released by the Public Affairs Section of the Embassy of the United States in Ghana.
According to the terse statement, the latest Open Doors report on international education has revealed that the United States hosted 1.08 million international students during the 2016/2017 academic year.
The report also showed a three per cent increase over the prior year. The number of African students hit a record high, at 37,735, marking a seven per cent increase over the previous year.
Ghana with 3,111, is coming a distant third position after Nigeria which leads with 11,710 students and Kenya’s 3,189 students
All these African students are enrolled in more than 630 tertiary institutions across the United States of America.
The US statement added that about 38 per cent of those at US Universities and Colleges, Graduate students make up 45 per cent, out of which 42 per cent are enrolled in doctoral programmes, adding that, the remainders were in student status, whilst in optional practical training or are enrolled in non-degree programmes.
It said the five most popular US States for African students are Ohio, New York, Massachusetts, Michigan, and Texas.
Besides, Ghana’s strong universities attract 20,000 students from other African countries and Nigeria is said to be on the lead of foreign students.
