The Osun State Government on Thursday, sealed the second and final Built-Operate-Transfer (BOT) concession deal with an indigenous company, AWOL International to deliver MKO Abiola International Airport and operate it for 30 years.
According to the deal, the proposed MKO Abiola International Airport sited in Ido-Osun, will cost N69bn under the concession arrangement.
These were the revelations of the Director of Public Building in Osun State Ministry of Works, Mr. Niyi Ogundiran, during a meeting with members of the state Assembly in Osogbo, the state capital.
He recalled that the contract was first awarded on Oct. 14, 2012, at the cost of N 4.5bn, noting that the project was to be completed within eight months by the government and not under a concession arrangement.
The contract was later reviewed to gulp N11bn to be able to accommodate more features.
Ogundiran also recalled that the state government had spent N3.6bn on the project before the latest concession arrangement, meaning that the said amount would be deducted from the N69bn contract sum to situate the real concession value at N65.4bn.
While the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr Nurudeen Adeagbo, described the deal as a good one for the state, he expressed the hope that the company would deliver a perfect job.
Earlier in his goodwill message, the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Adegboye Akintunde, urged all those in charge of the project to ensure its success, stressing that the citizenry is watching with keen interest to know the outcome of the arrangement.
