More irony and twist have emerged in the nation’s power crisis. Just as the Permanent Secretary under the Minister of Power, Mr. Edozien last week revealed that government has concluded plans to sell unevacuated electricity to ECOWAS states, on Tuesday, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said 50 million people out of the nation’s 180 million people have no access to electricity.
Osinbajo said in his keynote address at the Financial Times Africa Summit holding in London that “Nigeria’s 180 million people, over 50 million have no power”.
However, the Vice President did not inform participants that government is planning to sell power to ECOWAS, rather he told the gathering that as part of the present administration’s efforts to diversify power sources it had started a programme of providing solar power in 20,000 homes in rural villages.
