Barely 24 hours after the federal government hailed the performance of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), over ready remittances to the Federal Government’s accounts since this year, the same government after the Federal Executive Council (FEC), relied on the massive remittances made so far to order for the probe of previous Directors general.

Affected in the probe include two immediate past directors-general, Patrick Akpobolokemi and Haruna Jauro, who are currently facing similar prosecutions over alleged diversion of billions of naira belonging to the agency.

Also to be included in the probe includes another former DG of NIMASA, Raymond Omatseye, who was convicted of fraud to the tune of N1.5bn by a Federal High Court last year, but was later upturned by the Appeal Court in May 2017.

Incidentally, another agency whose former heads will be probed is Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB), even though both agencies were the only two agencies hailed for doing well amongst other MDAs in the areas of revenue remittances.

Government was, however, silent on the fate of the heads of all the agencies that were seen as not remitting accordingly since this year.
