NASENI develops indigenous eVoting machine, presents to Minister

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has broken the jinks of further importation of electronic voting machine with the formal presentation of prototype solar –powered eVoting Machine to the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu in Abuja.

Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Prof. Sani Haruna made the presentation.

Addressing the press after test running the gadget, Dr. Onu said the indigenous technology produced by the Ministry of Science and Technology will address challenges of electoral process in the country, going forward.

The elated Minister noted that the feat will rightly place Nigeria in an enviable place among the committee of nations, stressing that “The electronic voting solution developed by NASENI is the solution to the nation’s electronic issues”.

“It was specifically developed to address almost all the issues and challenges that are being faced by the electoral process.

“It would be appropriate and beneficial for Nigeria to accept and adopt this indigenous solution in order to increase the credibility of election process,’’ Onu said.

Continuing, he assured NASENI that he would formally present the mode to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of the model and possible mass production for future elections.

The EVC of NASENI in his analysis of the product’s delivery specifications said it had additional security features and unique serial numbering and identification for ballot boxes.

Other strategic features according to Prof Haruna, the new voting procedure called re-modified ballot system could only use persons with integrity as collation and returning officers and can withstand harsh environment.
