Labour unions at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Thursday put paid to their threats by boycotting stakeholders’ meeting scheduled for Thursday in protest against the move to concession four busy airports in Nigeria.

The airports in the radar of concession by the federal government include Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt international Airports.

The unions had hinged their opposition to the sales on lack of trust and confidence in the recent appointment of transaction advisers for the concession of the airports.

The unions; Air Transport Senior Staff Association of Nigeria and National Union of Air Transport Employees had averred on Wednesday that they would do everything legally possible to stop the planned concession of the airports by the Federal Government.

Even though the Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, had admitted a representative of the unions into a committee set up to advise the government on the project, they argued that the entire arrangement is fraught in lack of trust.

Key point of opposition according to the unions, was the violation of one of the criteria for the appointment of transaction advisers on airport concession which is to consult with the committee.
