Apapa Customs Command makes N77.4b, less N11.1bn from Q1 target of N88.5b
Impacts of unimaginable drop in container throughput have started showing up in several Customs Commands across the nation including Apapa.
Even before the setting in of recession, importation activities had started dropping but was further fueled by the forex restriction to about 41 items which analysts say had been the bulk of major importation that had been sustaining quarterly Customs revenue targets.
Nigerian flagship Customs Command, Apapa Area Command has made public its total revenue haul in the first quarter, saying it collected the sum of N77.4 billion representing a shortfall of N11.1 billion against its quarterly revenue target of N88.5 billion.
Details provided by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Nkiruka Nwala noted however, that the revenue collected within the period surpassed the revenue collected in the corresponding period of 2016.
First quarter of 2016 saw the Command generating a less sum of N61.7billion when compared with the year-on-year receipts.
Giving further insights and breakdown, Nwala in a statement said, the command within January it raved up N25.9billion; February, N24.7billion and March N26.7billion.
