Just as the Appropriations Committees in the Senate and the House of Representatives have kick started the construction of second runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja by injecting N15 billion into the 2017 budget, leading Aviation expert and analyst, Mr. Ojikutu has argued that no Nigerian airport has the traffic that demands a second runway.

The Ministry of Transport would take over the procurement process as soon as the budget is passed and signed into law.

The expert said construction of second runway in any airport is a function of traffic volume and not for the sake of infrastructure provision as being considered in Abuja.

Another expert who barred their mind on the reason considered by the lawmakers which was to forestall any future closure of the Airport as experienced from March 8 to April 19 said it would amount to waste of resources because its usage will be not be regular due to low air traffic.
