Current episode of the weekly TV Drama Series, Professor Johnbull, sponsored by Globacom, is challenging the propriety or otherwise of the age-old problem of multiple taxation in the business environment.
The fresh episode, aptly entitled “Tax and Revenue”, according to its sponsor, Globacom “is meant to draw the attention of the authorities to the challenges entrepreneurs face in the hands of the multiple Task Forces set up by the various governments to collect taxes, revenues and rates.”
In a statement, Globacom said “it is a fact that some businesses are closing down, while many others are struggling under the weight of multiple taxation. There are different Task Forces everywhere and many of them cash in on revenue drive by governments to exploit the people. The result is that Small and Medium Scale businesses are going down. The purpose of Tax and Revenue is to draw the attention of the authorities to the imminent crisis that may plague the economy if not addressed”.
The episode features Nollywood diva, Patience Ozokwor, popularly known as Mama G, who is making a second cameo appearance in the popular series.
Tax and Revenue will also feature the regular stars, including the protagonist, Professor Johnbull (Kanayo O. Kanayo), Elizabeth (Queen Nwokoye), Olaniyi (Yomi Fash-Lanso), Mai Doya (Funky Mallam), Etuk (Imeh Bishop), Jumoke (Bidemi Kosoko), Flash (Stephen Odimgbe) and Abadnego (Martins Nebo).
Globacom said the episode is an elucidation on what constitutes multiple taxation; what citizens are expected to do when confronted by task forces on revenue and what rights the citizen have as well as their obligations to the state in terms of taxes, rates and revenues.
