Two development focused companies, VConnect and Nolands Tax have concluded training for operators of small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria and charged them not to shy away from the imports of online presence in growing their businesses.

The partners said for better performance at a time the economy is struggling, SMEs has the best option to leverage the many online tools to grow their businesses.

According to the two groups, the size and structure of SMEs present a hard time to stand in a free but highly competitive market.

However, SMEs can do better if they can internalize online marketing, which helps to drive much of professional services marketing strategy.

Before now, the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) had said Nigeria is home to about 17, 000 SMEs.

Explaining more at the training, Head of SME Sales at VConnect, Vishal Tulsiani, said the importance of effective communication.

In his submission, he argued that “Many businesses just want to be online, they know it’s good to have an online presence, but don’t know exactly what they want to achieve by being online or how to go about it. Some years back, people did business based on referrals from friends and family but that is not the case now. Today, when in need of a product or service the first thing people do is go online.”

The business forum was organised to teach small and medium scale enterprise owners how to leverage and effectively use available online tools to grow their businesses in order to yield greater returns on investments (ROI).
