Lafarge Africa deepens services with 9 solutions to Nigeria’s construction industry
Leading indigenous cement group, Lafarge Africa Plc, a member of LafargeHolcim, world largest cement conglomerate has raised its offerings to the nation’s construction sector to nine solutions.
Among the top nine offerings of the group include Elephant Cement, Ashaka Portland Limestone Cement, UniCem Portland Limestone Cement, Special Application cements including RoadCem, and Sulphur Resistance Cement, PowerMax, ReadyMix, Supaset and Quarry Aggregates.
In 2014, legacy Lafarge Group consolidated its operations in Nigeria and South Africa and transformed Lafarge Wapco into Lafarge Africa Plc.
The group is now made up of AshakaCem, Atlas Cement, Lafarge ReadyMix and UniCem.
According to the company, RoadCem is a specialized cementitious binder designed to meet the need of wide range of road stabilization application.
Besides, it is important to note that Lafarge Africa is currently implementing a N300bn investment drive in Nigeria in the last few years.
In the South West, that is Ewekoro 1 and 2, Shagamu plant at 4.5MT production capacity; plus 4.5MT capacity under study.
There is also power generation; 90MW; plus 220MW by this year.
In the North East, Lafarge Africa is growing very well as 1.0MT plus 3MT and upcoming additional capacity in 2019 will deepen the availability of products and solutions. In power generation; a 64MW coal power plant is underway for delivery in 2018.
In the South East Mfamosing, there is 2.5MT; plus 2.5MT additional capacity secured last year.
The company is also venturing into gas power generation as it is currently investing in the sub sector. In this area, it has completed 45MW plus another 45MW last year.
It would be recalled that LafargeHolcim operates in Nigeria as Lafarge Africa Plc. With five cement plants and combined installed capacity of 8.0MT per annum spread in Ogun, Gombe and Cross River states.
It also invested an additional $60m for the 2.5MT at Mfamosing in South East. Currently ReadyMix plants are currently in Lagos, Abuja, Ewekoro and Port Harcourt while Aggregate Quarry is established in Owode, Ogun State.
The company now has about 1,800 direct employees with 99 per cent Nigerians.
