As two-day code conference organized by the Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON) in Lagos ends today, the president, Mr. James Emadoye has called on the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to rise to the occasion and compel Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to patronise Nigerian software.

This according to him, this will halt the massive erosion of foreign exchange due to foreign importation.

He argued that it is very dangerous to continue allowing foreign software to be dominant in the country’s businesses, government, education and the military.

However, he called for massive investments in the production of local software in other to discourage foreign appetite.

Emadoye therefore called on the government through the Bank of Industry to create a software business desk with at least a N5 billion revolving loan to develop the software sector.

He decried that out of the more than N16bn appropriated for computer software acquisition not mush was spent in Nigeria due to importation of software.

The two-day code conference ending today was powered by Soar On Technologies Ltd in collaboration with ISPON with the central objective of encouraging Nigerian developers on the need to code more so as to be able to take over software development in the country.
