Pump as Buhari unveils 30 new Navy vessels in Lagos

In what can be taken as his first ever working visit to Lagos since taking office, President Muhammadu Buhari Thursday at Naval Dockyard along Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island inaugurated multibillion naira 30 vessels newly added in the navy’s fleet.

Two of the three vessels were built by the Nigerian Navy Corps of Engineers, a feat that mainly attracted Mr. President to be present for the commissioning.

In his address, he pledged continuous support for the Nigerian Navy (NN) and assured the navy of government’s sensitivity on all their needs, saying the importance of a well equipped Navy remains the pride of every maritime nation.

However, the key message given to the Navy by President Buhari was a strong reminder that the nation was in recession, and he urged the navy to remain prudent in the management of resources, adding that they should look inwards to construct and improvise some vital operational tools.

Some of the vessels inaugurated include the second Seaward Defence Boat (SDB) indigenously constructed, NNS KARADUWA, NNS UNITY built to specification in China, a tugboat, UGWU and 27 other back water boats.
