The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) Wednesday confirmed to Business Hilights that next week Thursday has been tentatively chosen as the launch date for the Digital Switch Over (DSO) in Aubja, the nation’s capital city.
In a telephone interview with a top official of the Public Affairs department, the staff who pleaded anonymity said every needed logistics are on ground and the Director General, Mr. Kawu Modibbo has inspected facilities to make sure the launch will be hitch free.
In another development, just as Niger State Government has spent about N600m on digitization of government TV stations, Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has said due to the importance of the broadcast industry, the state government has completed over 90 per cent of digitalizing of the state radio and television stations.
The governor made the statement in Kano while declaring open the fifth national delegates conference of Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU).
Ganduje, represented by his deputy, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, described the broadcast industry as “one of the backbones’’ of the Journalism profession in Nigeria.
He said that the industry should be given more consideration, adding that his administration had invested much in the broadcast industry in the state and called on members of RATTAWU to deliberate on avenues of promoting the industry during the conference.
