FG, W/bank raise $40m for Apapa automated truck terminals, port access roads
The federal government has speed up measures to facilitate unhindered movements of goods from the nation’s seaports to various destinations nationwide.
Key move on this is coming on the heels of the new $40 million partnership deal with International Finance Corporation (IFC), an arm of the World Bank to build automated truck terminals.
The project is on the basis of Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) and would be carried out through expression of interest.
This was disclosed by the Executive Secretary of Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), Barr. Hassan Bello, who revealed further the project would be through the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) and NSC.
According to him, the project would be delivered through the National Freight Information and Transportation Hub (NAFITH), which is a Jordanian Logistics Service Consultant to IFC.
The Lagos State Government and other interested stakeholders are also part of the project expected to take about 18 months to complete.
He said that the project which will address the Apapa gridlock will be guided electronically, adding that “IFC, an arm of the World Bank, through NAFITH, did the study on behalf of NSC for the government, but also has contribution from Lagos State Government”
“It will take 18 months to complete the projects, and they will come in stages, getting the land took four months, the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC).”
