The Nigeria’s Alternate Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), Dikko Tahir Bala has emerges the Chairman of International Mobile Satellite (IMSO).
He was unanimously elected after an election was conducted during the 24th Assembly of the body in London yesterday, will occupy the prestigious position for two consecutive years.
In her reaction, the Head of Nigerian delegation to the International body, and managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Ms Hadiza Bala Usman, commended Bala for new position, expressing her optimism that he will bring his wealth of experience to bear in IMSO.
she said the election was a big achievement for Nigeria in particular and Africa in general.
Speaking on behalf of the Federal Government, the NPA’s boss assured the Assembly that Nigeria and all other member states would be fully committed to the work of IMSO while ensuring that the international organisation succeeds in all its programmes.
While expressing optimism that the new satellite technologies will ensure safety and security of life at sea, she thanked the delegates from all member states for their support and trust in appointing a distinguished Nigerian as the Chairman.
She further assured the delegates that the Assembly would be run by the new Chairman in the best interest of the body and all concerned, stressing that Bala “is hardworking and have never been found wanting in the execution of his mandate.”
