The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has called on terminal operators to plan and provide truck holding bays to decrease traffic gridlock along ports access roads.

In a statement issued in Lagos by General Manager (Public Affairs), Chief Michael Ajayi quoted the managing director, Ms. Hadiza Usman as calling on operators to make available holding bays for operations at their terminals.

She noted that it would help manage the traffic grid lock along Apapa corridor.

She further advised Terminal operators to install weighing bridges in their respective terminals stressing that soon machinery would be put in place to implement Government directives concerning the subject.

She revealed that NPA is ready to fast-track the rehabilitation of ports’ access roads in Lagos as part of measures to ensure efficient service delivery.

According to her, all necessary variables like the enforcement of Tonnage limits for trucks and the use of Railway for cargo movement would be encouraged in order to actualize the quick delivery of results concerning the Project of the road Rehabilitation, whilst pointing, out that it is important to collaborate efficiently in this regard.

Usman explained that the Authority is appreciative of the synergy of a consortium of private operators who in line with the dictates of public private partnership (PPP) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) are putting efforts together towards making sure that these Infrastructures are in top situation enough to necessitate swift delivery of Cargoes.
