Unilever has been certified as the Top Employer in Africa for the third consecutive year, by the Top Employers Institute.

The British-Dutch multinational consumer goods company was certified as the Top Employer in Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Ghana, and Kenya.

Unilever Nigeria’s Managing Director, Yaw Nsarkoh said while responding on the certification that “At Unilever, our goal is to create a brighter future for all. This begins with our employees.”

“Our people are our priority. We strive to foster an environment of mutual trust and respect, developing individual skill and capability as well as encouraging vibrant communication and consultation between employees.

“This recognition is a testament of our commitment to our employees that they can truly be the best they can be at Unilever. As an organization, by ensuring we have the right values and structures in place, we empower our people to truly succeed,” he added.

Unilever was also named as the No. 1 fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) company in South Africa and the No. 1 manufacturing company in South Africa.

Speaking on the achievement, Unilever Africa Executive Vice President, Bruno Witvoet, said: “For us at Unilever Africa, we work hard to combine our global experience with our deep African roots to develop local talent. So, we are delighted to see our efforts been recognized by the internationally renowned Top Employers, which is a truly independent and verifiable measure of industry best practice.”

“The future of Africa lies in its people and we are fully committed to seeing our African operations set best in class HR standards and offer talented Africans a career based on values and integrity where they can truly shine.”

Analysts say the Top Employer in Africa certification is awarded by the Top Employers Institute, which conducts an annual international audit of leading employers around the world. The Dutch research firm assesses participating companies in nine key areas: talent strategy, workforce planning, on-boarding, learning and development, performance management, leadership development, career and succession management, compensation and benefits, and culture.

Top Employers Institute’s Regional Director, Africa, Samantha Crous “Our extensive research concluded that Unilever Africa forms part of a select group of employers that advance employee conditions worldwide. Their people are well taken care of. Now that they have received the Top Employers Africa 2016/17 certification, they can truly consider themselves at the top of an exclusive group of the world’s best employers – a remarkable feat to celebrate!”

Human Resource, Vice President, Unilever Africa, Mechell Chetty added that Unilever was honoured by the Top Employer research for exceptional employee offerings and as an organisation which puts its people first and is dedicated to their personal and professional development.

“I would encourage more companies to participate and raise the bar on employment practices across the continent,” she said.

This award provides external verification to those looking to join Unilever that we put our people at the heart of our business and their development and contribution will be second to none on the continent of Africa.

To further buttress its position as a company that adds value to its customers, employees and the general public, Unilever Nigeria Plc, will be hosting an exclusive interactive session with its UniLeader, Mechell Chetty, Human Resource, Vice President, Unilever Africa on Friday, 28th October 2016, interested participants can register online
