Zinox Technologies deserves FG’s protection, waivers to deepen manufacturing—ATCON
Stakeholders are beginning to react to the recent feat achieved by pioneer computer company, the Zinox Technologies on the production and unveiling of world slimmest digital notebook, called Zinox GTX to the Nigerian market.
In a telephone interview, the President of Association of Telecoms Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), Engineer Olusola Teniola, told Business Hilights that “Zinox GTX notebook is very good and deserves government support”.
According to him, “Government need to do more for Original Equipment Manufacturers’ (OEMs), software, hardware and other electronic devices production”.
“I know that Nigerians can do these things; all we need is the right government policies. Time has come for government to give Zinox a strong protection.
“Zinox Technologies deserves serious partornization from all Nigerians and mainly from the government because of his resilience over the year in IT industry.
“I remember his Desk Tops were well patronized by the MDAs and I think it’s good for the same thing to happen to the new Zinox GTX notebook that is recently unveiled.
Continuing, Teniola averred that “Zinox has done well in producing the notebook; yes we know that most of these things have their components manufactured abroad, but the assembly is done here. Such companies deserve the best support from government because from assembly, you mature and go into component developments and that is growth defined”.
“The assembly and branding by Zinox are highly commendable and I think government should Zinox is given a better opportunity to prove himself.
Besides, I think such protection and support should not just be for Zinox but other enterprising indigenous IT firms in Nigeria.
“I think that there should be some levels of not just protection in real sense, but give them an advantage over and above any foreign companies that sales or provides similar services and goods.
ATCON boss argued further that “Government can even do better by giving waivers to Zinox and other IT firms that are promoting ‘Made in Nigeria’. That is the best and surest way to grow local content in IT and it will further deepen ease of growing business and enablement to expand production capacity of indigenous companies so that they can remain competitive in the face of global brands”.
Expanding the scope of his plea for federal support, Teniola mentioned other OEMs including “CWG, PFA, 21st Century, Rack Centre, MainOne are all there, Remita is also another IT company currently doing well that also deserves government’s protection”.
“This is time to remember the good IT companies that are indigenous. They need to be encouraged and protected by the policies of the government so that they will continue to provide jobs and add to the nation’s GDP. A smart policy can do that and so many other local companies will gain from it.
“Not everyone can be a success story, but those that have shown resilience deserve government’s protection to remain in business and do more for the economy.
Government should create enabling environment that will help them to thrive and succeed the more and patronage is key in this matter.
The more local firms are encouraged with patronage policies, the more they grow and create jobs.

On the new Zinox GTX, observers called on the federal government to introduce a policy on mandatory consumption of computers and digital notebooks manufactured in Nigeria, saying such a policy is what is needed to grow indigenous capacity and in the long run deepen digital literacy.
