President of the Nigerian Senate Tuesday read out letters from President Muhammadu Buhari at plenary.
One of the letters conveys seeking of approval for the Senate on the reappointment of Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, for a second term of five years, as the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
Recall that the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa. Ali. Pantami, had early last month, June 2020, recommended the reappointment of Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, as the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, for a second term tenure.
Provisions of the prevailing NCA Act, 2003, clearly allows for a second term tenure for the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC.
Besides, the letter to Senate is another indication that the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isah Pantami had endorsed his second term stay at NCC.
Fact check by Business Hilights Intelligence Unit (BHIU), an independent business research arm of Media Hilights Group, has shown that the first five-year term of the Kano State-born Professor of Electrical Electronics Engineering did creditably well.
BHIU report on Danbatta’s first five years released in Lagos on Tuesday, said “The industry entry strategy of Prof Danbatta as soon as he was appointed with series of stakeholders meetings both in Lagos and other parts of the country endeared many industry stakeholders to his leadership model”.
“Besides, the serious way and manner he pursued his 8-Point agenda at inception paved way for all the successes recorded by NCC within the first years of Prof Danbatta at NCC.
Recall that Prof Danbatta hails from Danbatta Local Government Council of Kano State. He holds a BEng as well as MSc degree from the Technical University of Wroclaw in Poland and a PhD from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, UK.
He was the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the Kano University of Science & Technology, Wudil. Until his appointment as the Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC in 2015.
BHIU further averred that the Senate confirmation of Prof Danbatta may be the fastest considering mileages so far covered by the country under his leadership, the latest being the hitting of 40% broadband penetration in Nigeria.
