Due to the intense heat so far generated during the presidential campaigns across the nation and associated hate speeches and threats traced to some states governors and political actors supporting different presidential candidacies between Atiku Abubakar and Muhammadu Buhari, the National Peace Committee (NPC), has conducted another round of signing peace accords for safe elections.
In an interview, the Secretary of the NPC and head of The Kuka Centre, Bishop Hassan Kukah, explained that the essence of the second peace accord is to further build confidence on Nigerians that none of the candidates is interested in election crisis.
He said even though the signed papers may not be legally binding, it is morally engaging and binding and further sends a strong signal to international community that even less than few days to the election, key actors in the presidency can seat and see each other in one room which defines readiness for a peaceful election.
