Switch over to concrete road instead of asphalt, Dangote tells FG, States govts
A new road construction technology that uses cement concrete has been advocated for both the federal and states government to end the recurrence of road failures in parts of the country.
The strategic method was made by the Managing Director of AG-Dangote Construction Company, Mr. Ashif Juma.
He said “With the great advantage in both durability and cost competitiveness, time has come for government at all levels to switch over to concrete roads instead of asphalt,” saying “concrete roads are far superior, durable, cheaper, and would not require frequent maintenance”.
Explaining more while giving assurance that the firm will deliver the Obajana-Kabba Road which is being constructed with concrete in Kogi State by December, he revealed that “the project will be the longest concrete road in the country and will traverse the North and South”.
“So far, 33km earthwork and 22km concrete pavement have been accomplished. Every care is being taken to ensure that Nigeria has a most durable concrete road. We will deliver the project by December this year. All hands are on deck,” he added.
According to him, “motorists travelling on completed parts of the road are commending it for the group the initiative”.
He averred that many of the road users are already showering praises on the President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote for the corporate social responsibility deal of the company on the road delivery.
Experts say one of the greatest advantages of roads on concrete over asphalts is the absence potholes.
Juma also noted that “A concrete road does not require frequent maintenance as an asphalt road. It saves fuel for motorists and protects tyres from wear and tear,” saying it is part of the group’s determination to support the government and Nigerians in order to grow the economy and facilitate ease of doing business.
