Upon the recent and successful installation of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) at the Asaba International Airport in Delta State by the state government, industry experts are still calling for improvement on the infrastructure.

Some users of the airport weekend said much is still needed to be done in terms of enabling facilities and real quality of an international airport.

However, in a statement issued by the State Commissioner of Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, the government noted that with the successful installation of the ILS, bad weather reports would no longer affect the operations of aircrafts flying into and out of the airport.

The government further added that “once the ongoing installation of the Air Field Lighting systems were completed, the airport would be able to operate at night without hitches in line with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) standards.”

“The Asaba International Airport has the capacity to become a major hub for local and international flight operations and called on the relevant regulatory authorities to give the necessary approvals for the operation of Boeing 777 and other bigger airplanes in and out of the airport.

According to the commissioner, the key target of the Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa is to make it an aviation hub in the region as soon as the ongoing upgrade of the airport is completed.
