PDP, others see no technocrats in Ministerial List as screening begins today
With Tuesday arrival of ministerial list from the presidency, Senate President Ahmad Lawan has announced the withholding of planned recess so as to begin the screening and confirmation of the nominees today (Wednesday).
Also, as part of showing seriousness to the lawmakers’ job on the 43-man list, he has equally said that all other legislative activities in the chamber would take back seat to ensure the speedy completion of the critical national assignment so that the government can stand well-footed.
According to him, “The screening of the ministerial nominees will commence tomorrow morning. All other legislative activities will take back stage for this very important national assignment.”
However, whereas the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and development analysts say they are still searching for the needed technocrats on the list, the party noted that the list is uninspiring and colourless. Besides, analysts say it would have been better if the Senate would ask the Presidency to place the names of the nominees’ side-by-side with their prospective portfolios for target-screening.
