Saraki at NYSC camp, says ‘Our youths have capacity to match their peers worldwide’
More prominent Nigerians are continuing to denounce the recently trending comments made by President Muhammadu Buahri which tend to suggest that Nigerian youths are lazy, waiting to eat free oil money. President Buhari made the comment while addressing Commonwealths body in London at the just concluded CHOGM meeting.
In what can be described as personal reply to the comments, the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, during his visit to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp in Kwara State, to condole with them over the death of a female corps member, noted that Nigerian youths have capacity to match their counterparts in the world.
He spoke at the orientation camp of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Yikpata, Kwara State.
While urging the Nigerian leaders to do everything humanly possible to give youths the opportunity to excel, the Senate president averred that “Most of you would shine if we give you that opportunity. We shall do everything to ensure that your future is bright.”
Saraki was at the camp to commiserate with the corps members over the death of one of them, Miss Hilda Amadi Ichechukwu.
The senate president who doubles as the former governor of the state, led a one-minute silence in her honour, stressing that “We must take up the responsibility of doing more to ensure that this type of thing doesn’t happen again, and that every corps member leaves the camp with good memories”.
“The camp should not be a place of endurance, but where you should be happy to be, as it would impact your life even after service. Times are hard, but we have a country that has great potential.
He lamented the state of facilities at the camp, and stressed the need to improve on its medical and other amenities for the life and living conditions of corps members.
