Roles of women in nation building, economy can’t be under-estimated–Access Bank boss
Rising from a recent breakfast meeting organised for businesswomen in Lagos by Access Bank Plc., the Group Managing Director, Mr. Herbert Wigwe, has argued that the role of women in nation building as well as the economy could not be under-estimated, explaining that women formed strategic focus of the banking industry.
According to him, “We appreciate your partnership. We want feedback from a select few. Another reason for this meeting is to see how we can do more to grow your business and become more productive in order to be so much better.
“Empowering women is truly at the heart of our strategy and of course, other things we have to do as far as sustainability is concerned. In the last couple of years, we have made significant progress as far as supporting women in business.”
The bank averred that the ‘W Initiative’, which was formed in 2014, was meant to empower and inspire women, revealing that “Sometimes it’s not all about money. It’s about sharing information and capacity building for the more discerning women”.
In his further submission, Wigwe added that Access Bank would welcome constructive criticisms that would make its operations better.
Earlier the Group Head, Inclusive Banking, Access Bank, Ope Wemi-Jones, said the ‘W Initiative’ of the bank was launched to take care of women in business and vowed that “We are going to create tomorrow together. The ‘W Initiative’ is about inspiring, connecting and empowering women, and was launched in 2014”.
