Whereas indications are suggesting that the federal government lacked the political will to implement its order to International Oil Companies (IOCs) to relocate their head offices to producing areas, the Akwa Ibom State Government has announced plans to work more with Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN) in the area of oil exploration and development of various communities.

Mobile remains the only IOC that has its corporate head office and administration in host state of Akwa Ibom, South South Nigeria.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel opened up on new development schemes in collaboration with the oil giant at the inauguration of a technical skills acquisition facility at the Community Technical College, Ikot Akata in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of the state built by Mobil.

He assured Mobil, saying “I want to assure you that I am going to provide you with a 21-storey building with which you can use as headquarters of ExxonMobil”.

Governor Emmanuel, who lauded the decision of the oil firm to give back to the host communities in the form of developmental projects, commended the Chairman and Managing Director, MPN, Mr. Paul McGrath, promising to provide all necessary support for the firm’s operations to thrive.

Other social investment schemes of the oil conglomerate sprouting up in Akwa Ibom State include construction of an ultra-modern logistic centre in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area to ease the evacuation of goods and complement services.
