While the Chief Olusegun Obasanjo-led Coalition of Nigeria Movement (CNM) recently claimed that their membership has risen to three million even though it is not yet a political party, latest political realignment showed that no fewer than 5,000 members including 59 leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, have dumped the party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking recently in South West Nigeria, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola said CNm will soon decide which political party to align with ahead of 2019 election to make sure there is change in the leadership of the nation before the country is grounded in cluelessness and killings.
In Bayelsa, the defectors, who cut across the eight local government areas of the state, adduced through their leaders that they returned to the PDP because the APC was confused, lacked focus and had no desirable agenda for the Ijaw people.
Receiving the returnees at the party’s secretariat in Yenagoa on Friday, Governor Seriake Dickson in company of other PDP leaders in the state said the APC had shown Nigerians and the Ijaw people that it (APC) had no agenda to make progress possible.
In his remarks, Dickson noted that many of the returnees were deceived to join the APC but had realised that the party is bereft of ideas and have decided to rejoin the PDP to contribute their quota to the development of Bayelsa State.
While assuring the party members not to panic ahead of 2019 elections, Governor Dickson said the PDP government in Bayelsa under his watch had placed the state on the path of peace, prosperity and development, adding that Bayelsans are happy with the party.
