Not only in PH do filling stations under dispense 35% fuel—Lagos Motorists
Contrary to the news that broke yesterday by the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), that no fewer than 35 per cent of filling stations in Port Harcourt willingly adjusted their meters with intent to cheat unsuspecting customers, several motorists who spoke to our correspondents in parts of Lagos, Owerri and Kano have expressed similar feelings.
Majority of the motorists in the named cities cited examples of how filling stations milk car owners using the pump especially during rushing hours of the day.
Some motorists say from their experiences, majority if stations owned by Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) have issues with completeness of their litres.
However, commercial drivers mainly in Lagos agreed that fuel dispensing from stations managed by Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) members and the NNPC are always exact.
Recall that the Operations Controller of DPR, Port Harcourt Zone, Mr Bassey Nkanga, had revealed that during his agency’s routine surveillance of filling stations in the city, majority of the stations were discovered to have shortened their meters to milk not less than 35 per cent of products from motorists.
Though he added that the affected stations had been sealed off and barred from doing business, said that under-dispensing, over-dispensing, operating without a valid licence and selling adulterated petroleum products attracted heavy fines and severe sanctions.
