Nigerian Customs steps up land border surveillance over total closure order
Though one of the initial cases confirmed cases of an American entered Nigeria via land border, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reassured strict enforcement of the new Executive Order from the Federal Government on total closure of all land borders in the country.
Recall that Federal Government had Monday issued fresh directive on total human and materials movement across Nigerian land border as part of renewed efforts to curtail further spread of the deadly coronavirus.
The PRO of Nigerian Customs, Mr Joseph Attah, who spoke for the Service’s Operation Swift Response averred that eagle-eyed surveillance officers are already on ground and fully equipped with digital signal systems to enforce the order.
According to him, “Customs operatives are alert on their duty posts, at land borders, seaports and airports to enforce government directives accordingly. So, these areas are well manned by our officers.”
“The new order now is on total closure of land borders, so, no movement of people coming in, or going out through the land borders.”
Continuing, Attah stressed that “This is total lockdown and we must ensure that things that can endanger our lives and security are not allowed into the country”.
He therefore advised Nigerians and mainly border communities and Nigerians engaged in border related businesses to conduct themselves within the trying period of COVID-19 fight.
