Working on the official leadership reinforcement garnered from the recent reappointment as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof Umar Danbatta has retooled key directorates with redeployments of their heads.
Findings by Business Hilights showed that the senior staff members affected by the reemployment, include the Director, Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Department, Mr. Efosa Idehen; Director, Public Affairs Department, Dr. Henry Nkemadu; Director, Consumer Affairs Bureau, Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, and Director, Research and Development (R and D) Department, Mr. Ephraim Nwokonneya.
The change which took immediate effect saw Mr Idehen as new Director, Consumer Affairs Bureau, while Nwokonneya is the Director, Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement Department.
Also, ace corporate icon, Dr Nkemadu swapped duties with another leading corporate czar, Dr Adinde, whose roles in restructuring Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) to world class recognition.
Otherwise, whereas Dr. Adinde is going to be the new face of the commission’s public relations as the Director, Public Affairs Department, Dr. Nkemadu will lead the Commission’s reformed Research and Development department, where he had served ab-initio as a deputy director before he was promoted and moved to Public Affairs department last year.
Just as Dr Nkemadu can see his redeployment as home-coming, industry analysts say the new position of Dr. Adinde remains the placement of round peg in a round hole when his exploits at DBI are put on the scale of jurisprudence.
Taking our minds back to 2017, when the DBI, an initiative of the NCC which remains the focal point for human resource development and workforce capacity building, held its thirteen year anniversary, Business Hilights can authoritatively recall that the event of the first set of students for its Kano Campus following the approval granted it by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to function as an Innovation Enterprise Institution was electric. Then, Dr Adinde was the Administrator of the institute.
The 2017 matriculation ceremony, which took place on May 24, 2017, was colourful with high-profile personalities in attendance.
Roll calls included the Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, then Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II and the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta and several others.
Basking on the encouraging euphoria of the licence secured from the Federal Ministry of Education and NBTE to the DBI to operate as an Innovation Enterprise Institution, Dr Ikechukwu Adinde, then Administrator made it clear that the licence enables the DBI to run two-year programmes in the specialised areas of software engineering, computer hardware engineering, networking and systems security, telecommunications technology and multimedia technology.
He revealed that “The first set of students were admitted into the programme for the Kano and Lagos Learning Centres in the current 2016/2017 academic session. On completion, graduates will be awarded a National Innovation Diploma (NID) equivalent to Ordinary National Diploma (OND) with which they can pursue higher studies in related fields in the university via Direct Entry admission.”
Recall that DBI was established in 2004 by the NCC and has over the years become the leading provider of capacity building in telecommunications and information technology in Nigeria and beyond.
The curriculum of the programme is uniquely designed with 30 per cent classroom instructional work and 70 per cent practical laboratory and workshop experience to offer students a rich blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Upon graduation, students can proceed to a degree programme of their choice via Direct Entry in related fields at any university in Nigeria and abroad.
