Following the declaration of former House of Representatives Speaker, Hon Emeka Ihedioha of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of Imo State governorship election, indigenous professionals have started proffering solutions and roadmaps for the incoming administration.
In a statement made available to Business Hilights South East Bureau chief in Owerri, the Imo State capital, veteran journalist and media consultant, Mr Sam Diala started by asking ‘What do I say to you? Congratulations’ or ‘Accept my sympathy’?
“You are ascending the throne when Imo State is under the unbearable weight of human cruelty and blistering pains of demonic influence. The larger Nigeria is even “worster” according to a Trader from a neighbouring state.
“The economy shows disabling outlook, yet expectations are not only high but urgent. According to Debt Management Office (DMO), Imo has domestic debt stock of N85bn plus foreign debt of $62.2m as @ 2018 Half Year.
“Her IGR averaged N6.8bn annually. It receives average of N85bn from Federation Accounts Allocation (FAAC)a year.
“This puts its consolidated Debt/Gross Revenue @ 292.82%, or 369.65% Debt/Net Revenue. Either way, the journey is long, tough, rough and the future not far from being bleak.
Diala averred that “With estimated population of 5m growing @ 3%p.a, and 60% being youth, Ihedioha should know that the problem at hand is as real as mom and apple pie. But as Modecai told Esther (Esther 4:14), “Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
“In other words, who knows if God has reserved and prepared you for a (horrible) time like this? Ndi-Imo have never had it so cruel, so depressing, so hopeless and so ungodly. It flows from the larger stretch called Nigeria where the sea seems to be flowing northwards and the people are applauding in anguish.
According to him, “You can make a difference if you apply the spirit of Nehemiah TO RISE AND BUILD.
“A few ideas are hereunder:

  1. Run an open system. Communicate, communicate and communicate. Hold quarterly Town Hall forum at Senatorial levels. Make it open, free and frank.
  2. Meet with critical stakeholders soon after inauguration for ideas – Teachers, Govt. Workers, Traditional Rulers, Artisans …
  3. Formulate a REALISTIC 3-Year Strategic Development Plan incorporating industrialization.
  4. Adopt a Vision that focuses of human capital dev. & job creation.
  5. Move ahead; ignore the statutes (no excuses, like APC does).
  6. Tackle insecurity.
  7. Be close to God.
