Life returns on Lagos-Badagry Expressway as Hamzat assures early delivery
…Says FG has awarded Agbara-Seme border six–lane reconstruction
Traffic normalcy is set to return to Lagos-Badagry highway hitherto characterized by traffic nightmare due to abandonment of construction activities by the handling firm, China Civil and Engineering Construction Company (CCECC).
Indication for return to normalcy came after Tuesday’s visit of the highway by the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat.
Addressing the press after observing happenstances at the Under Bridge Bus Stop, Lagos International Trade junction, the Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, said “Work will resume from this junction down to barracks, Volks and run till Agbara in Ogun state. Let me tell you, the Federal Government has awarded contract for six-lane international highway from Agbara to Seme border.”
The Deputy Governor further revealed that the contractor handling Lagos-Badagry Expressway will upon resuming construction activities from Under Bridge down to Agbara, it will also resume activities from Alakija up to Mile 2 to return damaged points to standard.
Business Hilights recalls that the Lagos State Government seems to be responding to a recent public outcry by the President of Auto Spare parts & Machinery Dealers’ Association (ASPMDA), who doubles also as the chairman, Trade Fair Stakeholders Forum (TFSF), Chief Dr Daniel Offorkansi.
In a World Press Conference last week, Chief Offorkansi had cried to the Lagos State Government to come to the aids of thousands of traders plying their businesses at the Lagos International Trade Fair complex.
However, in an interview with Chief Offorkansi shortly after the visit of the Deputy Governor, he said “Well am just coming back from the East. I heard he came to see things for himself. I will thank him and the Governor if we begin to see activities on the highway”.
“Like I said last week in the Sun Newspaper which was carried front page, we want either serious construction activities or reasonable palliatives.
“Let us wait and see,” he added.
However, majority of the road users who spoke to our correspondent were divided on what the visiting Deputy Governor said on exactly when the work will start. Whereas some said he assured that work will start immediately, other argued vehemently that he never give timeline.
But many of the road users including motorists and residents are upbeat that work may start today, Wednesday.
