…Seek continuity of free highways going forward

Checks across all highways and bridges that hitherto serve as parking lots for heavy duty vehicles including trucks and containers either heading towards or exiting the seaports disappeared before Saturday morning apparently ahead of President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign rally at Taslim Balogun Stadium.
It would be recalled that before now, there had been fruitless efforts to rid Lagos highways of these blockages.
Many residents of the state, who observed freeness of the roads from parked long vehicles, were asking questions on why the originally intractable clearance of the highways was suddenly possible on the eve of a presidential rally by the ruling party.
One of the surprised motorist, name with held had this to say: “I am driving down to FESTAC through Mile 2 , all the trucks that used to block the road have disappeared”.
“My friend also called that all the trucks on Ikorodu road, from Fadeyi down to Apapa have also developed wings, just because President Buhari is visiting Lagos today.
Continuing, Lagos resident recalled that “If the trucks that used to subject us to untold hardship could disappear in a twinkling of an eye, I think the truck drivers and those in charge of traffic control and the Lagos State Government were deliberately torturing us.
“Let those who did it for Buhari, do it for us and save us from mental, psychological and physical torture,” the motorist averred.
Analysts say part of the reasons why the trucks were effectively removed from highways could be the outrage that followed earlier signal that some highways would be closed down during the visit for ease of traffic that will hold sway during the period.
Experts say as soon as Lagos State Government observed that closing about 18 roads would be counterproductive, they came up with the idea of relocating and hiding all the uncountable trucks terrorizing highways inside streets and quiet residential areas to present a stress-free highways during the period of the rally.
Observers say there are chances that the trucks and containers will find their ways seamlessly to the highways hours after the return of President Buhari to Abuja.
