Lafarge deepens CSR in host communities, lifts living, education in Cross River
Leading housing and construction solutions provider, Lafarge Africa Plc., has stepped up socio-economic standards in parts of Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State, hosting one of its cement plants in Nigeria.
The life changing infrastructures include renovation and handover of three blocks of classrooms at Mfamosing Primary School in Mfamosing; a remodelled palace at the Akamkpa LGA, Clement Emayip, and a community notice board.
Explaining more during the company’s ‘2017 Community Day’, at the Mfamosing Primary School, the Country Chief Executive Officer of Lafarge, Mr. Michel Puchercos, described the feat as a clear testimony of the company’s commitment to host community relations.
He also noted that the projects are in line with Lafarge Africa’s 2030 sustainability plan.
Represented by the Mfamosing Plant Manager of the company, Mr. Peter Robson, the chief executive disclosed that the key feature in the 2030 plan of Lafarge is focusing on people and communities.
Puchercos said, “We recognise our host communities as our progressive partners building together and for tomorrow, while ensuring that we continually leave positive footprints that will impact on our hosts in the communities in which we operate.”
While revealing that the 2017 Mfamosing Plant Community Day was the first of its kind, he assured that the event will henceforth become a yearly event as a corporate initiative to strengthen host community relationship and also with the government of Cross River State.
Puchercos also announced that Lafarge had a range of other community projects across all the 10 host communities, saying “This year, we have provided bursary awards to 100 secondary school beneficiaries across all our host communities. To further reinforce our commitment to education, we have carried out renovations of classroom blocks in Akansoko and Mbobui in addition to Mfamosing and provided 300 dual writing desks in selected secondary schools across our host communities in the Calabar Municipal LGA.”
Business Hilights recalls that Lafarge Africa had been one of the continental conglomerates in Nigeria that had over the years been winning awards in CSR and community development schemes.
