Korean firms in Nigeria, S’Africa to accommodate NKFI students henceforth
As part of new drive to deepen industrial technology transfer, South Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Major-General Lee In-Tae, has directed that graduates from the Nigeria-Korea Friendship Institute of Vocational and Advanced Technology (NKFI), located in Lokoja, Kogi State capital, shall be allowed to undergo internship in Korean companies operating in both Nigeria and South Africa.
Some of the top South Korean Companies in both Nigeria and South Africa include DEAWOO, KIA Motors, Samsung and LG Electronic and others.
Addressing the Kogi State Governor during a recent visit in his office, Gen. In-Tae disclosed that the directive is from his home government as part of efforts to grow technological advancement in Africa.
Explaining more, he said apart from the Students Industry Works Experience Scheme (SIWES) in Korean firms, the companies had also been mandated to offer free accommodation, transport and feeding for the interns, saying that the students would be considered for employment by the companies after graduation.
The Ambassador added that Korean government is making further efforts to upgrade the systems and equipment to conform to international standards.
He said “All is set to upgrade the installed systems and equipment as they have become analogue; this is necessary to meet up with international best practice in the ever changing world of technology. Our government holds the Institute dearly and will do everything to make it the best technology institute in Nigeria, Africa and indeed the entire world.”
Gen. In-Tae revealed that four professors from Korea had been deployed to the Institution for one week to assess the needs and requirements for further improvements in the training school.
Responding, Governor Yahaya Bello expressed the happiness of the Kogi youths for the programmes of the Institute and assured government’s support to the stability of the training school.
