Barely one month after massive attacks on Nigerians and their businesses in South Africa, confirmed reports from Mpumalamga province on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, revealed that Nigerians living in South Africa have once again come under serious attacks.
Confirming the fresh attacks, the leadership of Nigerian Citizens In South Africa (NICASA), added that Nigeria’s Consular General to South Africa has left Johannesburg to see things himself at Witbank in Mpumalanga province.
Business Hilights recalls that earlier last month, coordinated outbursts of violence against foreigners erupted in parts of South Africa in which Nigerians were major victims.
Whereas several people were killed and many business interests of non indigenes including Nigerians and other African nationals were torched and shops looted, the height of the crisis forced about 600 Nigerians to flee via a free flight donated by chairman of Air Peace, Chief Barr Allen Onyema.
The killings further lead to the burning of car marts owned by mainly Nigerians in places such as Johannesburg and Pretoria.
Besides, President Muhammadu Buhari also paid a visit where he purportedly resolved the matter with President Cyril Ramaphosa, but the resurgence of attacks has raised fresh diplomatic tension which the Nigerian government is yet to comment on as at the time of filing the report today.
