Former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi has emerged the consensus presidential candidate of the Labour Party in a prfimaries conducted in Asaba, the Delta State capital today, Monday, 30 May 2022.
This followed the stepping down of Professor Pat Utomi for Mr. Peter Obi at the presidential primary of the Party.
Utomi said he was stepping down a younger aspirant with the capacity to effect the needed change in the Nigerian system.
He said the time of the liberation of Nigeria has began with the LP primaries.
Another aspirant, 45-year old Joseph Faduri had earlier made his speech but mounted the podium again to also step down for the former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi.
The primary election is holding now in Asaba, Delta State.
The Frontier reports that, with this development, Peter Obi becomes the consensus presidential candidate of the Labour Party only waiting for a formal adoption by the delegates.
There are strong indications that many other political parties are likely to join Labour Party in support of Obi ahead of the 2023 elections.
