Just in: New board chairman of MTN Nigeria, Ndukwe condemns xenophobia, reprisals
The Board of MTN Nigeria under the chairmanship of Engr. Ernest Ndukwe has reacted to the ongoing xenophobic attacks in South Africa against non-nationals and observed reprisals in Nigeria in the last couple of day.
In a terse statement made available to Business Hilights Thursday afternoon in Lagos, Ndukwe said “The board wishes to add its unequivocal condemnation of the xenophobia and violence against Nigerians and other nationalities in South Africa over the recent days, as well as the violent response to it in Nigeria.”
While stressing that “Violence cannot, and must never be acceptable and we must reject it in the strongest terms possible,” he noted however, that “We offer our profound sympathies to all those affected and urge all stakeholders and communities in Nigeria, South Africa and other countries, to act with restraint, and to work collaboratively to address these issues. Our future as a continent will be built on enhanced connections and greater integration economically, culturally and politically. It is in all of our interests to work together.”
Recall that the former Executive Vice Chairman of telecoms regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), recently took over board chairmanship from the foundation chairman and former chairman of defunct Diamond Bank, Mr Pascal Dozie.
