The Head Public Affairs at the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Hajiya Mrs. Maimuna Altine Jimada, has died in a London Hospital after battles with chest related issue.
In a statement issued by the management of the Commission in Abuja today, NBC said “With heavy heart, the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) announces the passing away of Head of Public Affairs at the Commission, Hajiya Maimuna Altine Jimada (Mrs.)”.
While acknowledging that the Commission is saddened by her demise especially at the time of the Commission when her contributions are most needed, NBC averred that “Mrs Jimada was a thoroughbred professional who was very caring, loving jovial, charming and warm to all and sundry”.
The Commission also decried that “It is even more saddened by the fact that her passing away is coming just one day after the passage of another dutiful and committed staff, Miss Mabel Aladejebi. Until her passage, Mabel was a Confidential Sectary to the Commission.
She was a friendly, loving and dedicated officer”.
NBC best logoIn a telephone interview with the Director General of the Commission, Mallam Is’haq Moddibo Kawu earlier today, he decried the death and described Mrs. Jimada as “A dedicated and responsible officer of the Commission that will be very hard to forget”.
“You know, I have known Maimuna for decades and she was my staff when I was pioneer General Manager Kwara TV”.
“My relationship with her is actually the relationship I had with her father. When I worked in broadcasting in the 1970s, her father used to present a programme on radio on agriculture and her husband Umar Jimada, is my childhood friend.
“I was actually at Maimuna wedding ceremony, and when I was pioneer General Manager of Kwara TV, she was one of the first set of people to work with me; she was head of presentation and she was the news reader.
“So, when I became the DG of NBC, Maimuna was one of the first people who made me welcomed. Maimuna is the truly remarkable professional; she is a wonderful sister and a genuine friend.
Continuing, NBC boss revealed that “for me, I have lost a friend, a sister, a professional, a worker, a supporter and the wife of one of my best friend”.
“My relationship with Maimuna is multi-faceted. In fact, the thing is when I come to the office beginning on a Monday and she comes into my office, I would joke with her saying ‘have you called your boyfriend in Illorin’.
“I am talking about her father. Because Maimuna was at the center of her family. She was such a wonderful family person. In fact when I saw her father, you could see that he was completely devastated.
“You know, the last time that I cried about anybody dying was when my mother died in 2009, but honestly when the husband told me, “Mallam, we have lost Maimuna in the last 15 minutes, I couldn’t stop crying.
“We have lost a genuinely professional person, a genuinely good human being and she has left a space not only in her work but in our hearts forever. And to be honest, she is somebody that every human being can be replaced. Honestly, Maimuna brought a particular zest for her work,” emotionally devastated DG, lamented.
