Ahead of the 2019 general elections, international coloration today emerged in the ongoing massive exodus of party bigwigs’ from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) to opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the Ambassador to South Africa, Ahmed Ibeto, not only resigned his appointment, but embraced the PDP.

Earlier last week, 14 Senators and over 30 House members dumped the ruling party while the Benue State Governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom also left the party with all his faithful.

Business Hilights gathered that he had returned to Nigeria from Pretoria weekend to perfect his resignation and defection plans as he may be caught behind enemy lines if he take the action right in South Africa.

He announced his leaving the party Tuesday afternoon having handed over his letter of resignation at the Ministry of External Affairs on Monday.

Considering the ambassador’s defection, observers say, his defection may have been a ground plan for emerging massive defection in his home state, Niger as sources say he has a governorship ambition ahead of 2019.

Recall that former Ambassador was a member of the PDP until the primary election of the party in November 2014, during which he lost the governorship ticket to Umar Nasko, a former Chief of Staff to ex-governor Babangida Aliyu.

Besides, he was the vehicle on which the incumbent APC governor rode to victory, leading his campaign to all the 274 wards in the state.

His ambassadorial appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari was to compensate his for a job well done in helping to turn in the state to APC.

By the state of alignments’ and realignments now, there are strong indication that the APC may be on the way of losing North East and parts of North Central even before the election proper.
