…However, fears rise over proliferation of gas refilling shops

Contrary to yesteryears, a report released by Business Hilights Intelligence Unit (BHIU), an independent investment research arm of Business Hilights Group, has shown that “it is now more rewarding, safe and pocket-friendly to do domestic cooking on gas than Kerosene in Nigeria due to sustained investments in the industry by private sector and growing drive by government policy to expand the horizon of the sub-sector since recently”.

“Currently, more household in Nigeria have come to realize that it pays to use gas than either Kerosene, charcoal or fuelwood.

“However, there are fears of jumping proliferation of Skid Gas and smaller gas refilling outlets on streets with little or no safety standards in many parts of the country especially in densely populated cities like Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and other others,” the report noted.

The BHIU report frowned at what it described as “laxity and lack of seriousness of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) the areas of standards enforcement and compliance monitoring on the establishment of Skid Gas plants and retailer shops especially along residential streets,” saying “the sights are waiting bomb”.

On why cooking gas is becoming the bride of many household, the report averred that “Since this year, there had been a sustained drop in the prices of filling every cylinder and the drop in price is further assisted by accessibility.
