In last five years, Total E&P invested over $10bn in Nigeria operations—Nnadi
The Executive General Manager, CSR, Total Eand P Nigeria Limited, Vincent Nnadi has revealed that the International Oil Company (IOC) has spent well over $10 billion across its operations in Nigeria within the last five years.
Speaking at a press conference to highlight some of the oil multination’s achievements and programmes, he disclosed that Total currently spends over $40 million annually on CSR in Nigeria.
However, he was quick to express apprehension over issues of insecurity in the Northern parts of the country, noting that the situation has continued to hinder operations even in the delivery of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) schemes.
While describing CSR projects as Total’s way of a contributing to the economic and social development of its stakeholders and Nigeria in general, Nnadi averred that the CSR schemes of the group is spread across programmes to promote health, education, economic progress and access to energy.
He said “We had to deploy the use of project managers to reach areas where we could not reach. Security remains a big challenge to our CSR operations and the industry.”
He said going forward, the company’s societal strategy focus prioritizes education and capacity building in response to the need of host and neighbouring communities, and added that “Total’s ambition is to become the responsible energy major, saying that to achieve the feat, it created a Civil Society Engagement (CSE) in 2018 which he said was in a direct response to the complexity of the problems facing the world.”
