Importers mull N100bn suit on Customs, server managers over rising losses
Aggrieved Freight Forwarders under the aegis of Save Nigeria Freight Forwarders Importers and Exporters Coalitions (SNFFIEC) are currently perfecting legal touches to papers ahead of dragging the leadership of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Webb Fontaine and its server designer/managers to a Federal High Court over losses they have been bearing due to server failures.
Addressing newsmen at Apapa, the President of SNFFIEC, Dr. Chukwu Osita Patrick, said that the issue of Customs server failure has become a major problem in the maritime sector which government has failed to address.
He said incessant failures of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) servers had cost them over N50 billion losses on weekly basis across the nation’s ports.
Accordingly, SNFFIEC is considering slamming a N100 billion compensation suit for importers huge losses at ports.
Business Hilights gathered that upon pleas by freight forwarders and stakeholders in the maritime industry on the Customs boss, Mr. Hameed Ali, to have another server provider who will assist the Webb Fontaine, the Service had decided to drive monopoly in server provider due to precautionary gains.
The group accused the Service and shipping industry regulators of working hands in hands to heap and accumulate demurrage on importers through the consistent server failure.
