Sunday was agog for followers of new Imo State Governor, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, as the Court of Appeal sitting in Owerri, struck out the suit challenging his emergence as the Imo state governor.
Recall that the Senator representing Owerri Zone, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, had filed the suit which had earlier been stuck out by an Owerri Federal High Court challenging the emergence of Ihedioha as the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In his lead judgment, Justice Raphael Chikwe Agbo, averred that the petitioner did not present convincing evidence before the Appellate Court, saying the suit is dismissed for the plaintiff inability to convince the court with established allegations.
The former lawmaker, who did not seek reelection but the post of the governor, had approached the Court seeking to nullify the victory of Ihedioha at the primaries and declare him the authentic winner.
The Senator had accused Ihedioha of engaging in over-voting, thuggery and associated violence to win more votes. Ihedioha had won Senator Anyanwu at the party primaries on October 1, 2018, with 1,723 votes as the law maker got only 1,282 to come second.
