…Checks show no such checkpoint in other regions
Strong anger is brewing across South Eastern states over clear target of Igbos returning for Yuletide with bags of rice at the popular Onitsha Head Bridge by officials of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS).
Some of the shop owners near the scene of the seizures explained to Business Hilights South East Bureau chief, that the Customs officials face passengers as if they were on a detailed duty to seize any kind of none Nigerian rice coming from any other part of the country.
They alleged that key targets of the officials who are largely not from the region include buses coming from Lagos and parts of northern Nigeria.
Eye witnesses say one observable fact from the combined comments of passengers in affected buses coming from Lagos and northern Nigeria was that there is no other Customs checking point across Nigeria where seizures of foreign bags of rice are are the key targets.
Efforts to speak to the Customs image maker, Mr. Joseph Attah failed as at press time.
