House member, Hon. Oghene Egoh explains Lagos-Ibadan ‘Free Salah Bus Ride’
Federal House of Representative member, representing Amuwo Federal Constituency in Lagos State, Hon. Oghene Egoh has explained the reasons behind the provision of free Salah bus ride from his constituency in Lagos to Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
In a telephone interview with Business Hilights on Tuesday, he said he provided the free service as part of his contributory support to Muslims who reside in the constituency wishing to travel to Ibadan and nearby town for celebration.
“Last year we did it. In fact last year, we tried to take the bus to Ife and other towns, but we realized that majority are heading to Ibadan, so this year we settled for Ibadan and majority voted for it. Last year, the bus went twice and this year may exceed that because we are getting more who are happy to ride with us.
Continuing, he said “Salah is one of the festive seasons in Nigeria, and the best one can do is to join his people to celebrate. Yes am not a Muslim, but the best form of celebration is joining others when they are celebrating and that is what we are doing to my people in Lagos. I saw the need for me to felicitate with my people who are going home for Salah.
“I have been doing similar thing to our Christian brothers residing in my constituency from eastern Nigeria especially during Christmas. So I felt, it will be ideal to extend similar gesture to our Muslim brothers and sister from the core western Nigeria to travel freely and rejoice with their relations at home.
“The bus is free because I have paid the drivers, conductors and fueled it throughout the season and the batches will begin from Thursday. The designated place where our Muslim brothers wishing to travel will go and board, relax and receive welcome to Ibadan in a jiffy is Abule Ado Bus Stop, by Tantalizer in front of Zenith and Access Banks.
Commenting of many of his Constituency projects since the beginning of the 8th National Assembly which he is a member under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he listed provision free school bus, school uniforms, several youth empowerment schemes and others.
Business Hilights recalls that he has distributed a number of Tricycles among the youths in his constituency.
The National Assembly member further assured that he will continue to deliver dividends of democracy to the people of Amuwo Federal Constituency, in Lagos State.
