Strong indications have emerged that the seasonal fuel scarcity that usually characterizes the entire South East during end of the year yuletide may not resurface this year.
Reason; the Managing Director of the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC), a subsidiary of the NNPC, Mr. Umar Ajiya has revealed that PPMC stocked-in products in the nine Inland depots, including Enugu and Aba.
The agency also announced that it will begin sales effective December 1, 2019 to tame any form of regional fuel scarcity in the entire five states of the geopolitical zone.
Ajiya averred that the move was geared towards forestalling frequent shortages being experienced during Christmas and New Year in the eastern part of the country.
Giving the cheerful insights during an interactive session with executives of the Major Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) in Lagos, he gave the assurance that NNPC/PPMC has enough stock of petrol, and other products between now and early next year till the elections.
He disclosed that aside any further supplies which he said is not possible, PPMC currently has petrol stock that would last about 45-days which include part of next year.
According to him, “We have 2.2 billion litres of Petrol, 1.1billion on land and 1.1billion on marine, 800 million litres in PPMC depots in addition to 27-day sufficiency of AGO, 98-day sufficiency of ATK and 48-day sufficiency of DPK.”
He therefore warned the public against panic buying or stockpiling flammable products at unsafe places like homes and offices as yuletide draws near.
